Introduction
This report contains the latest developments and good practices to develop grid connection codes for power systems with high shares of variable renewable energy – solar photovoltaic and wind. The safe and reliable installation of photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems and their integration with the nation’s electric grid requires timely development of the foundational codes and standards governing solar deployment. FERC today directed new reliability standards to protect the grid as the nation makes the transition to expanded use of clean energy technologies. There have been changes throughout the entire 2023 NEC that may affect the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems. New US regulations for grid-tied inverters are set to take effect in January 2026, impacting manufacturers, installers, and consumers by introducing enhanced safety, cybersecurity, and grid support functionalities for a more resilient and modern power system.
